Industry minister, Syrian representatives talk about methods to enhance economic collaboration

(MENAFN) Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply Yarub Qudah met with Syrian officials in Damascus to explore ways to strengthen economic collaboration between Jordan and Syria. The discussions focused on following up on agreements reached in recent months, including outcomes from the Joint Economic and Trade Committee meeting held in Amman last month.

Qudah and Syrian Minister of Economy and Trade Mohammad Shaar reviewed measures to accelerate joint efforts in trade, investment, and broader economic integration. Jordan reaffirmed its commitment to support Syria’s reconstruction by sharing expertise and providing resources, particularly in economic sectors.

The talks emphasized the importance of quickly implementing the joint committee’s recommendations in areas such as transportation, agriculture, customs, standards, industrial cities, free zones, and food and drug regulation. Both sides highlighted the need for regular convening of the committee and advancing economic integration in line with the Higher Coordinating Council’s outcomes.

Fathi Jaghbir, president of the Jordan and Amman chambers of industry, noted that Jordan–Syria economic relations are entering a “new era of openness and collaboration,” pointing to a more than 400% increase in Jordanian exports to Syria in early 2025, totaling JD72 million. The recent wave of meetings and business events reflects both governments’ and private sectors’ readiness to strengthen Jordan’s role in Syria’s recovery.
