U.S. Denounces Drone Attacks on Iraqi Oil Fields

(MENAFN) The United States sharply condemned a series of drone attacks targeting oil fields in the Iraqi Kurdish region on Wednesday, emphasizing the threat these assaults pose to the country’s stability and economic progress.

State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce stated, "The United States strongly condemns the drone attacks that have been targeting oil fields in the Iraqi Kurdistan Region since July 14.” She warned that these attacks jeopardize Iraq’s stability and its economic future, underscoring the responsibility of the Iraqi government to safeguard its territory and all citizens.

Bruce further stressed that "These strikes target international companies that are working with Iraq to invest in Iraq’s future," reaffirming Washington's commitment to a "stable, federal and sovereign state."

Earlier, the US Embassy in Iraq issued a statement denouncing the strikes as “unacceptable," highlighting how they "undermine Iraq's sovereignty and hurt Iraq's efforts to attract foreign investment.”

Among the affected sites is the Sarsang oil field, operated by HKN Energy, a US-owned private oil and gas company active in Iraq’s Kurdish region.
