Putin Hints at Potential Trump Meeting
(MENAFN) Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that Moscow is open to engaging in a third phase of peace negotiations with Ukraine.
Speaking to the media in Minsk, he also showed receptiveness to a potential summit with US President Donald Trump, calling him a “courageous man.”
Putin shared that delegation leaders are actively working to settle on a date for the forthcoming negotiation round.
He noted that both Ukraine and Russia have submitted “two directly opposing memoranda,” which he acknowledged is “not surprising.” According to him, the primary goal of these talks is to seek “ways to get closer.”
Addressing a humanitarian aspect of the conflict, Putin stated, “We’ve already handed over more than 6,000 bodies (of Ukrainian soldiers) and are ready to transfer nearly 3,000 more. But it is up to the Ukrainian side to accept them.”
Regarding diplomatic relations with Washington, the Russian president remarked that bilateral ties with the US are gradually finding balance and that initial progress is underway.
He expressed openness to a face-to-face meeting with Trump, saying, “A meeting with Trump is entirely possible. We will gladly prepare for it,” adding, “He is a courageous man, that’s clear.”
He further emphasized that US companies have shown signs of wanting to re-enter the Russian market.
“We will only welcome this. It must be prepared thoroughly,” he stated.
Putin also touched on Russia’s military budget, which has reached 13.5 trillion rubles (USD171 billion).
He argued that this expenditure is intended to bring a “favorable outcome” to the ongoing "special military operation" in Ukraine and insisted it poses no threat to Europe.
