Deadly Russian Missile, Drone Strike Hits Kyiv, Leaving Casualties

(MENAFN) At least one person has been killed and 24 others injured following a large-scale Russian missile and drone assault on Ukraine’s capital, Kyiv, according to reports.

The attack triggered explosions across the city after officials had earlier warned that Russia might be preparing a major strike. Air raid alerts were issued amid concerns of an incoming missile barrage, with residents urged to take shelter as the situation escalated overnight.

According to Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko, strikes impacted multiple areas of the capital, including residential buildings, a student dormitory, a car service center, and a shopping mall. He confirmed that the number of injured rose to 24, including a 15-year-old boy, with several victims in serious condition.

Medical officials reported that at least 13 people were hospitalized, three of them critically injured.

Ukraine’s Air Force had warned of the possible use of a medium-range ballistic missile system, while city officials described the incident as a “massive ballistic attack,” urging civilians to remain in protected areas.

Earlier statements from Ukrainian leadership indicated that intelligence shared by Ukrainian, US, and European sources suggested the possibility of a new missile deployment, prompting calls for increased international pressure to deter further escalation.

Russian authorities have not issued an official response regarding the strike.

Emergency services continue to assess damage and assist those affected as recovery operations proceed across multiple impacted districts.
